Yesterday, Disney announced that Marvel's Ant-Man will be hitting theaters on November 6, 2015. The film, which will be directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), was announced at the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where a small amount of test footage was screened for fans in Hall H. Though Ant-Man is one of the founding Avengers in the comicverse, this will be the character's first introduction to the Marvel cinematic universe.
It was also announced that the third installment of the Iron Man saga (May 3, 2013) will be released in both 3-D and 2-D, as will Thor 2: The Dark World (November 8, 2013). The sequel to 2011's Asgardian adventure will also feature celebrated British actor and Doctor Who alum Christopher Eccleston as a new villain and will see former Chuck star Zachary Levi in the role of Fandral. Levi will be replacing original Fandral Josh Dallas, who is now a series regular on ABC's Once Upon a Time.

Marvel announced at last weekend's New York Comic Con that Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson will be joining the cast of the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. television show. Coulson, whose untimely demise at the hands of the villainous Loki has been the subject of much debate, was first introduced in 2008's Iron Man and quickly became a fan favorite. It is unclear how Coulson survived (or if he survived - even legitimate death is rarely lasting in the comic book world, unless your last name happens to be Parker or Stacy and your first name rhymes with "pen"), with rumors ranging from resurrection to fakeout to Vision, but overall the announcement has been met with a resounding cry of, "Coulson Lives!"

Marvel Supports Breast Cancer Awareness With Variant Covers
Marvel is partnering with Susan G. Komen for a Cure to help raise awareness of the risk of breast cancer in both women and men during the month of October, which is also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the US.
Over the next three weeks, Marvel will be rolling out a series of 8 variant covers for many of its popular titles that will feature the characters in pink-accented costumes, pink being the color most commonly associated with breast cancer awareness, and with the Komen foundation in particular. In addition, Marvel comics released in October will feature a one page ad aimed at raising awareness of breast cancer in men.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Boxed Set Delayed
Marvel movie fans, if you were as stoked as I was about getting your Phase One Blu-ray set in a couple weeks, try not to Hulk out: the release has been delayed by about half a year.
The 10-disc package was to include all six Marvel Studios films - Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Avengers - in cardboard sleeves featuring artwork that was exclusive to the set, special features, 3D versions of the latter three films, and prop replicas from each movie, all wrapped up in a replica of a S.H.I.E.L.D. briefcase with a light-up Tesseract inside. Pretty sweet. When I was at Comic-Con and saw the set on display at the Marvel booth, I may have drooled. Just a little.
Unfortunately, the briefcase used in the film was not made by the prop department, but rather a German luggage company. News broke last week that said company had filed suit against Marvel for failing to secure permission to replicate the case. Pre-orders were halted indefinitely.
Hope for a swift settlement has essentially been eliminated by parent company Disney's statement that they will not be able to make the September 25th release date and are now striving to get the set out in a new package, by Spring 2013. The statement also promised even more content than was originally advertised, presumably to make up for the delay.
For those who placed their orders through Amazon, a similar statement has been posted on the product page.
The release of The Avengers on DVD and Blu-ray has not been affected and will take place as scheduled.
A bummer, to be sure, especially since the delay will be so lengthy. However, it could be worse: you could be one of the people in charge of putting the package together.

Joss Whedon to Write, Direct, Produce Marvel Pilot for ABC
A few weeks ago, it was formally announced that Joss Whedon - writer/director extraordinaire and creator of such beloved cult series as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse - had signed an exclusive three-year contract with Marvel, for whom he helmed the record-smashing juggernaut that was The Avengers. The details of said contract confirmed his involvement with the Avengers sequel and hinted at the development of at least one live-action Marvel television show.
Just yesterday, it was reported that Whedon would be developing a pilot for ABC based on S.H.I.E.L.D., the top secret world peacekeeping task force led by Nick Fury. Joining him on the project are his brother, Jed Whedon, and Jed's wife Maurissa Tancharoen. The team previously worked together on the internet musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, as well as Dollhouse. Joss will be co-executive producing and co-writing the pilot. He's also slated to direct, schedule permitting.
Very few details have been released, but Whedon has noted that the show's storyline will be, "autonomous," from the Avengers sequel, which suggests that it will be allowed to develop as its own entity, rather than as an empty promotional tool for future films.
While many of Marvel's, "big guns," have already been employed by the film department, a wealth of characters remain untapped, many of whom have ties to S.H.I.E.L.D., giving the show plenty of potential for cameos and team-ups. However, the concept really opens the door for audiences to learn more about the agents who tend to turn into a backdrop for Hulks and hammers.
Best of all, fans might finally get another Whedon series that lives long enough to reach its full potential. Unlike Fox, who helped drive Firefly and Dollhouse to unforgivably early graves with poor advertising, pre-empting, and time slots of doom, ABC has a less disruptive sports and award show schedule and a better track record when it comes to making shows work (still, a moment of silence for Pushing Daisies). Plus, as both Marvel and ABC are owned by Disney, success will literally be in everybody's best interest.
